Basketball

Eastman Recreation offers a coed basketball league each year that is open to Eastman employees and contractors. The season runs from October to March with games on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  

Practices for the 2024-25 season will begin on September 9 with the season beginning  October 21. Registration deadline is October 10. Entry fee is $125 per team.

Coaches meeting will be held October 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the B-310 Employee Center.

League rules and eligibility

Rules


Game time

  • Regulation: Two 16-minute halves are played.
  • Clock: The clock runs continuously, except for shooting fouls, injuries and timeouts. The clock will also stop during the last two minutes of regulation on every whistle.
  • Timeouts: Each team will receive four full timeouts per game. Each team will also receive one substitution timeout (20 seconds) per half. Teams must have a sub to use a substitution timeout. The clock will not stop unless it is the last two minutes of the game.
  • Overtime: Each overtime period will be three minutes. The clock will stop during the last minute of overtime. Each team receives one additional timeout.

Fighting

  • Fighting will not be tolerated. Anyone who gets involved in a fight will be ejected from that game and suspended for a minimum of two additional games. Involved players will also be subject to ejection from the league. The recreation staff reserves the right to make all decisions based on each case.

Dunking

  • No dunking before, during or after games. Technical fouls will be called for attempted dunks.

Eligibility


Players must be Eastman employees or contractors to participate.

Postseason tournament

  • A double-elimination tournament will be held at the end of the regular season.
  • The league will typically be split into two divisions (upper and lower) prior to the tournament.
  • Players must play in at least one-third of regular season games to be eligible.
  • Exception: New hires must play in at least half of the games after becoming employed to be eligible.

All-stars

  • Twenty players are selected for an all-star team at the conclusion of the regular season.
  • Each regular-season team has at least one representative player on the all-star team.
  • Players are selected based on a combination of ratings, including game MVPs and coaches’ top choices.
  • Players must play in at least one-third of the regular season games to be eligible.

Scoring title

  • An award is given to the player with the highest individual scoring average per game.
  • Players must play in at least two-thirds of the regular season games to be eligible.

Please print the roster and fill in all categories. All players must sign the roster. Submit the completed roster to the recreation office along with registration fees.

Congratulations to the 2023-24 Eastman Basketball Champs, Hydro Boys.

This team won the End of Season Tournament finals which was played  Friday, March 1, 2024, at VO Dobbins Gymnasium.

On Thursday, March 7 we will be playing our All-Star Game at 7PM at VO Dobbins Gymnasium. Everyone is invited out to watch our 2023-24 All-Stars Play in the last game of the year.

Eastman all-stars

An all-star team is selected at the end of the season based on the top league standings, and this team is then split into two teams that play each other.

Basketball Challenge

The annual Basketball Challenge is a series of games played between the Eastman basketball league and the Kingsport Industrial League. The teams are paired up according to their rankings in their respective leagues. The league with the most challenge game wins is deemed the champion of the Basketball Challenge and gets to keep the trophy for the year.

Statistics

These statistics can include a wide range of metrics, such as points scored, team offense and defense, average points per game (PPG), number of games played and individual single game high scores. They are used by coaches, analysts and fans to assess the strengths and weaknesses of players and teams, to identify areas for improvement, and to make strategic decisions about game play.
